Nasal Polyps

What Are Nasal Polyps?
Nasal polyps are sac-like growths that are found anywhere on the lining of the nose. Although small polyps may not cause any issues, large polyps can intensely damage the sinuses. Symptoms of nasal polyps may include difficult breathing, loss of smell, or infection within the nose. Although the cause is often unknown, people with asthma, allergies, sinus infections, and cystic fibrosis are more susceptible to nasal polyps.
How Are Nasal Polyps Treated?
Nasal polyps can be treated through surgery or doctor-prescribed steroids. Depending on the size of the growths, medication can often be used to shrink nasal polyps, but surgery is sometimes needed to fully remove them. Polyps can often reoccur after removal.
