About Cancer

Head and neck cancers consist of cancers in the throat, larynx, lips, mouth, nose, and sinuses.

Most of these cancers begin in the tissues that line the nose, mouth, and throat. If discovered early, these cancers are highly curable.

There are several symptoms that can act as warning signs that should be brought up to your doctor if they continue.

  • A consistent sore throat
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • A lump in the head or neck that gets bigger or does not heal
  • Voice loss or changes in sound

Other cancers can form in the head or neck but are not considered Head and Neck cancers due to the difference in behavior.

Men are twice as likely to be diagnosed with head and neck cancer than women.

Throat Cancer

Throat cancer can have several different names due to the many parts of the throat that can be affected, such as the larynx, esophagus, pharynx, or tonsils. Tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, and HPV are the main risk factor of throat cancer. If you are experiencing difficulty swallowing, a consistent sore throat, or intense ear pain, make an appointment with your doctor. If found early, the cure rates are exceptionally good.

Tongue And Mouth Cancer

Tongue and mouth cancer, also known as oral cancer, can form in any part of the mouth. Anyone is susceptible to mouth cancer, but the risk increases for males, tobacco users, alcohol users, and those who have been previously diagnosed with oral cancer. Talk to your doctor if you notice any changes in the sensitivity, color, or shape of your mouth, as well as loose teeth or difficulty swallowing.

Tissue Biopsy

A tissue biopsy is used to remove and examine a small portion of tissue from your throat. This technique is used to come to a diagnosis and determine a treatment that is best for you.
