About Pediatric Hearing Loss

Early detection of hearing loss is crucial because impaired hearing can eventually lead to delays in the child’s development.  Development delays include poor language and speech skills.

These can affect the child’s academic performance and lead to poor emotional and social skills later.

Pediatric Hearing Loss

Comprehensive hearing test will be performed to determine the nature and severity of the hearing loss.  A specific treatment plan will then be designed for each child.  Lab test and x-rays may be required to fully evaluate the cause of the hearing loss.

The audiologist will inform the patient and family about hearing loss management, the degree of hearing sensitivity and other concerning areas, potential hearing assistive technology, and different organized support groups.

The family will be asked to complete a family history chart and disclose the child’s medical history. This will aid in helping determine what the cause of the hearing loss could be.
